Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I sign up for classes?Generally speaking, you can sign up for all of our classes through Thinkific. Some firms are coordinating sign-ups directly with us, in which case they’ll pay us directly and we’ll add you to Thinkific without you having to do anything. If you’re unsure if your firm falls into that category, then ask the appropriate person at your firm!
-
Can I take multiple courses at one time? We’re certainly not going to stop you from taking multiple courses at the same time. But our recommendation (especially if you’re working) is to only take 1 course at a time!
-
Do I need to be Canadian to take a course?Nope - we welcome everyone to take our courses. That said, our courses are currently targeting Canadian lawyers/law students, so just keep that in mind if you’re signing up. We will be expanding beyond Canada in the near future, so stay tuned for updates about that!
-
Who are the Instructors? Our instructors are lawyers who are knowledgeable in their respective fields - but more importantly, they are passionate about teaching! We have a detailed onboarding process to make sure that your instructor will be able to lead classes that are engaging, fun, and very practical. We don’t just let anybody sign up to teach for us! We put them through an intensive training program that we custom built. Only the best instructors who complete our training are allowed to teach our courses. Aaron Baer (Partner at Renno & Co and ex-BigLaw Partner) is involved in the building and launch of every course, as well as the training of all new 4L Academy instructors.
-
Are classes in person? We’re a remote-first business, so all our classes are designed for the remote world. We teach using Zoom and plenty of other technology. In the future, we may offer in-person classes, but for now everything is online. All our classes are taught live!
-
Are classes CPD eligible? For Ontario lawyers, our courses are eligible for CPD credit (substantive hours and - where applicable - professionalism hours). For B.C. lawyers, all our courses are eligible for CPD credit. Check the individual course page on Thinkific for CPD details for a particular course!
-
I want to attend, but I’m not sure my firm will let me. Are you available to explain more about 4L Academy to them?Absolutely - send us an email (either through our website or just directly to aaron@4LAcademy.ca), and we’ll do our best to help!
-
I want to get involved as a teacher/TA/volunteer. How do I do that? We’re constantly looking for more people to get involved, both on a volunteer and paid basis. Send an email to aaron@4LAcademy.ca if you’re interested in learning more about how you can get involved with 4L Academy.
-
I wish you had other classes - are you planning on developing more?We have lots of future classes planned, including more advanced courses for mid-level and senior associates. But if there are specific classes that you’d like to see, then let us know. We’ve love your input on shaping our roadmap!
